My writings on the wall about Bjork

BRIEF HISTORY

Name : Bjork Gudmundsdottir

(Pronounced,'Byerk Gwerthmunsdottir)

NB : Bjork-s last name translates as simply Gudmunds Daughter

Date of Birth : November 12th 1965

this is my brief timeline :

1977 : I released my first album - released only in Iceland - called -Bjork-. It managed to sell over 7000 copies...which is pretty good in Iceland considering I was only Eleven...

1979 : At thirteen - I manaeged to form a couple of punk bands - Exodus and then SPIT AND SNOT. With EXODUS, we managed to make one television appearance on ICELANDS only music channel.

1981 : After a brief fling with them I formed a group by the name of TAPPI TIKARRASS. (Which means - Slap the bitches ass - in english).

1982 : I star in a film documentary on Icelandic New WAve with TAPPI TIKARRASS. Our band contributes two songs and we are hearalded as the most promisining Band in Iceland.

1983/1984 : TAPPI TIKARRASS release our second and last album . While with them - I joined an Icelandic Superband camed KUKL. After three years and two albums we split up....

1986 : On June the 8th - I had a son named Sindri to my husband - Thor Eldon.. This year is also when SYKURMOLARNIR / SUGARCUBES makes its first appearance. 1988 sees our first album.

1989 : Sugarcubes release their second album.

1992 : Sugarcubes release our third and final album. This year I decide to go solo ( Amid rumours that I was going to anyway ). I move to London and work with Nelle Hooper & Graham Massey on an album of sugarcubes remixes.

1993 : I release my solo album - DEBUT -. It manages to sell over 3 million copies ( Far more than the 20-000 we were expecting ) and turns out to be my happiest album yet...

1995 : I release my second album - POST -. I joined up once again with Nelle Hooper + Graham Massey and my boyfriend at the time TRICKY. This album leaned more to the trip-hop side than the house sound of DEBUT. Joseph tells me that Hyperballad is his favourite song... ahh well....

1997 : I release my thrid album - HOMOGENIC -. This is by far more dark and angry than the previous two albums....and more electronic and trip-hop. This is my fully grown album - with Mark Bell (LFO) helping me out with the beats.... Joseph also loves Bachalorette and Joga from this album...

I first came across bjork back in 1994, thanks largely to Human Behaviour, a single from her solo album, DEBUT. My sister also managed to get her hands on a free copy of one of her CD Singles, which contained the best remixes of her songs from 'DEBUT'. What I love about Bjork is not only her music, but her voice alone. It has that ability to reach into your senses and wreak havoc or iron out the creases. She paints a mural of fantasy and surrealism with every song and lightly splashes it with touches of brilliant reds and cool blues.. keeping you captivated in the beauty of it all.
